Cocubes Practice Questions with Solutions

Q.1) The Mayur Takes thrice as long to row a distance against the stream as to row the same distance in favour of the stream. The ratio of the speed of the boat(in still water) and the stream is?

  1. 3:1
  2. 1:3
  3. 2:1
  4. 1:1

Ans: 3)

Solution: Let the speed in the still water and stream be x and y i.e (speed in still water):(speed of stream)=x:y.

Distance is the same so the time taken downstream is t, and the time taken to travel upstream is 3t.

d=d
[(x+y)/t]=[(x-y)/(3t)]
x+y=3x-3y
2x=4y
x/y=4/2=2/1
x:y=2:1

Q.2) The man can do a work in 60 hours. If he takes his son with him and both work together then the work is finished in 40 hours. How many hours did the son take to complete the same job, if he work alone on the job?

  1. 100
  2. 120
  3. 60
  4. 20

Ans: 2.

Solution: If the man takes 60 hours to complete his work then, he will finish (1/60)th of the work in 1 hour. Let us assume that his son takes x hours to finish the same work.

If they work together for 1 hour they will finish (1/60)+(1/x)=1/40 of the work. Therefore x=120. The son will take 120 hours to do the same job.

Q.3) The length of the room is 5.5m and the width is 3.75m. Then, what is the cost of paying the floor by slabs at the rate of Rs.800 per sq metre?

  1. 42000 Rs
  2. 38000 Rs
  3. 26000 Rs
  4. 16500 Rs

Ans: 4.

Solution: Area=5.5 x 3.75 sq.metre. the cost for 1 sq.metre=800. Hence, the total cost=5.5 x 3.75 x 800= 5.5 x 3000= 16500 Rs.

Q.4) Sanjana’s age is 1/6th of her father’s age. Sanjana’s father’s age will be twice the age of Deepak’s age after 10 years. If Deepak’s eighth birthday was celebrated two years before, then what is Sanjana’s present age?

  1. 12 Years
  2. 5 Years
  3. 20 Years
  4. 36 Years

Ans: 2.

Solution: Let x be the Sanjana’s present age and her father’s age be 6x. Given that Sanjana’s father’s age will be twice the age of Deepak’s age after 10 years.

Therefore Deepak’s age after 10 years= 1/2(6x+10)= 3x+5. Also given that Deepak’s eighth birthday was celebrated two years before. So, his current age is 8+2= 10 years old.

Deepak’s age after 10 years= 10+10=20. 3x+5=20 i.e x=5. therefore sanjana’s present age= 5 Years.

Q.5) The shopkeeper bought a box of 100 toffees for Rs 200. His son ate 10 toffees( without paying). At what Selling Price should each toffee be sold so shopkeeper makes an overall profit of 20%?

  1. 2.4 Rs
  2. 2.2 Rs
  3. 2.67 Rs
  4. 3 Rs

Ans: 3.

Solution: Cost Price for Shopkeeper= Rs 2000. So Required profit %= 20%.

Required Total Selling Price= 1.2*200= Rs 240. Toffees Left= 100-10=90. So Selling Price for each Toffee= 240/90= Rs 2.67.
